Job Description:

The State Government Affairs Associate will serve as a subject matter expert on the State Government Affairs (SGA) team within the Advocacy Division of the ACC. The role involves monitoring, analyzing, and communicating relevant state government activities, including legislation, regulation, and case law that impact ACC's mission, programs, and member interests. Reporting to the Team Leader, State Government Affairs, the person will provide timely information, recommendations, and action plans to support strategic objectives.This position is based in Washington, DC, with a hybrid work environment (two days per week in the office).Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create and implement processes for monitoring and analyzing state government activities.
  • Analyze proposed legislation, regulations, and policies; collaborate with staff and leaders to develop positions and strategies.
  • Act as the primary contact for interactions with state officials and agencies.
  • Engage proactively with policymakers to educate, address concerns, and advocate for solutions.
  • Lead legislative tracking for healthcare-related bills, regulations, and proposals.
  • Work with members and stakeholders to advance or defend policy positions.
  • Build and evaluate advocacy engagement strategies, and develop educational and communication materials.
  • Draft policy documents such as letters, comments, testimony, and briefs.
  • Educate internal teams and stakeholders on key issues and legislation.
  • Mentor team members and assist in onboarding new staff.Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and minimum 3 years of experience in state government affairs, preferably in a medical society.
  • Experience in analyzing and communicating complex concepts persuasively.
  • Strong political acumen and understanding of bipartisan government relations.
  • Proven success in engaging volunteer leaders and members in advocacy.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to travel approximately 20% of the time.Desired Qualifications:
    • Master's degree preferred.
    • At least 5 years of healthcare-related state government experience.
