Job Description:
The Nurse Practitioner (NP) will provide direct patient care, in
the context of an interdisciplinary rehabilitation team, to
patients with brain dysfunction (traumatic and non-traumatic) in
collaboration with two attending physicians. The patients may have
cognitive and communicative as well as physical impairments. The
work involves daily rounding and writing of notes, compilation of
discharge summaries, occasional H&Ps (although those are
primarily done by the MDs), and coordination of care during
transition to post rehabilitation. Duties will include: performing
physical examinations and preventive health measures; ordering,
interpreting and evaluating diagnostic tests; recording physical
findings and formulating plans and prognosis, based on the
patient's condition; prescribing or recommending medications or
other forms of treatment; discussing cases with physicians; and
other duties as assigned.EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Master of Science degree in Nursing with completion of a Nurse
Practitioner program; Registered and currently recorded with the
Maryland Board of Examiners of Nurses and Certified as a Nurse
Practitioner in the State of Maryland
- Valid state APRN Recognition (must meet education requirement
(s) for state recognition and obtain within six (6) months of
hire)
- Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and BLS by the
American Heart Association is preferred
- DEA and CDS eligible
- CPR required
- A minimum of one year experience as a Registered Nurse is
preferred
- Demonstrates ability to promote professionalism through
involvement in professional organizations, teaching, research,
publishing, and/or certification in area of specialty
- Demonstrates knowledge and skills necessary to provide care
appropriate to the patient population(s) served. Ability to
demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development
over the life span and possesses the ability to assess data
reflective of the patient's requirements relative to his or her
population-specific and age specific needs
- Demonstrates highly effective verbal and written communication
skills are required to interact with patient families, departmental
units, medical and nursing staff on all essential matters
- Maintains updated mandatory training
- Updates immunizations as recommended per practice areaTotal
RewardsThe referenced base salary range represents the low and high
end of University of Maryland's Faculty Physician's Inc. salary
range for this position. Some candidates will not be eligible for
the upper end of the salary range. Exact salary will ultimately
depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful
candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, market
conditions, internal equity, responsibility factor and span of
control, education/training and other qualifications. University of
