High school graduation or equivalent; completion of an approved
Medical Assistant program
1 year experience working in an ambulatory care medical office,
preferably in a paperlessenvironment; minimum of externship in a
medical or ambulatory health setting. 2 years back office
medicalexperience strongly preferred.
CMA (Certified Medical Assistant) by the American Association of
Medical Assistantsor RMA (Registered Medical Assistant) through the
American Medical Technologists or equivalent within 6months from
hire date; CPR Certification.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Ability to type 40 words per minute; basic computer skills;
excellent verbal /written communicationand customer service skills.
Clinical competency as verified during the initial 90 day
orientation period andannually thereafter. Computer and Electronic
Medical Record skills and ability to function in a variable
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Calls in refill prescription medications for patients after
physician approval and documentation; completes requisitions for
tests (only if certified).
Cleans, stocks and sterilizes equipment and cleans and prepares
patient rooms for care delivery.
Comprehends equipment and procedures for all specialists working
within the facility.
Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and
objectives and adheres to department policies, procedures, quality
standards and safety standards. Complies with governmental and
Maintains equipment/environment (ie carts, cabinets, utility rooms,
fridge); assists with medical supply requisition; discards outdated
