Job Title: Software Engineer IV - Enterprise Services Development and Sustainment
Location: Silver Spring, MD or Boulder, CO or Asheville, NC or Kiln, Mississippi (potential for remote)
Clearance Required: Public Trust Eligible


Description
The Software Engineer IV will work with SWEB in developing and sustaining enterprise services for data
management. The ideal candidate should have experience in enterprise software development,
distributed systems including cloud services, web stack full stack development, scientific development,
and Linux, Java, Grails, Python, and other building tools.


Key Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain enterprise services to support the data management needs of
NCEI
Collaborate with stakeholders to define requirements, develop solutions, and ensure high-
quality service delivery
Develop and maintain software architecture and code standards
Follow industry best practices and government guidelines in all aspects of the software
development lifecycle
Troubleshoot and resolve software-related issues
Develop and maintain software documentation


Required Skills /Education/ Certifications & Qualifications:
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field
8+ years of experience in software engineering
Strong programming skills in Java, Python, Grails, and other building tools
Experience in enterprise software development, distributed systems including cloud services,
web stack full stack development, and scientific development
Familiarity with software configuration management tools and practices
Excellent communication and teamwork skills
Ability to work under tight deadlines.
Strong work ethic.


Preferred Skills:
Familiarity with NOAA data and metadata standards
Experience in agile software development methodologies
Familiarity with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
Experience in leading a team of software developers
