About the Center:
The Rapid Prototyping Research Center (RPRC) focuses on providing its Department of Defense (DOD) sponsors a unique perspective on rapid prototyping that aligns with Section 804 in the FY17 National Defense Authorization Act. Specifically, rather than developing a new system to satisfy intractable problems on the battlefield, the RPRC integrates new technology into existing infrastructure. This unique approach reduces acquisition costs since the sustainment tail is in place. It also reduces the time to field intractable solutions to the battlefield from 10-14 years to 1-3 years. It assures that the prototype involved is integrated with the latest technology, not dated technology due to lengthy acquisition delivery timelines.

About the Position:
The Network Architect Engineer will lead a team of engineers in designing and implementing network solutions for various applications. They will be responsible for defining technical requirements, developing network architectures, and ensuring that the team delivers high-quality solutions that meet the needs of our clients. They will also be responsible for providing technical guidance and mentorship to fellow engineering RPRC team members and for continuously improving the team's processes and tools.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the design and implementation of network solutions, including LAN, WAN, VPN, and other network technologies;
  • Collaborate with other teams and stakeholders to define technical requirements, develop network architectures, and identify risks and mitigation strategies;
  • Develop detailed network design documentation, including diagrams, technical specifications, and test plans;
  • Lead the implementation and deployment of the network architecture, ensuring that the solutions are scalable, reliable, and secure;
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members on the implementation of the network architecture, including configuration, testing, and troubleshooting processes;
  • Participate in solution reviews, testing, and debugging to ensure that the solutions meet quality standards;
  • Ensure that the team delivers high-quality network solutions that meet the needs of our clients and provide regular status updates to stakeholders;
  • Continuously evaluate and improve RPRC processes and tools and provide leadership in the adoption of new network technologies and methodologies; and
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to RPRC engineering team members and help to build a culture of excellence and continuous improvement.

    Required Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree in related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
    • Experience as a Network Engineer or Network Architect, designing and implementing network solutions for various applications (typically 5+ years);
    • Experience with network technologies like LAN, WAN, VPN, and firewalls;
    • Experience with network security technologies, such as IPSec, SSL, and firewall rules;
    • Demonstrated knowledge of network architecture principles, design patterns, and best practices;
