The Chief Development Officer (CDO) will direct all aspects of philanthropy of a Regional Health Ministry. Critical priorities for the CDO will be to build and expand a program that ensures long-term, sustainable and transformative growth that is responsive to the evolving needs and strategic direction of Holy Cross Health. The CDO will have day-to-day responsibility for the planning, development, implementation and management of all fundraising-related gift program initiatives with a focus on major, transformational and planned gifts. The CDO will direct development staff and partnerships throughout the organization; and engage Foundation and Health Board members in raising operational and programmatic funds aligned with the strategic plan. The CDO participates in the Executive and Senior Leadership Team meetings and represents Holy Cross Health in the philanthropic community. The CDO maintains the Foundation's accountability standards to donors and ensures compliance in an ethical and professional manner. Responsible for building organizational capacity and the culture to ensure fundraising goals are met. All activities are in support of the missions of Trinity Health and Holy Cross Health. The CDO reports to the CEO, Holy Cross Health and the SVP of Philanthropy for Trinity Health

Minimum licensure/certification required (if applicable):

CFRE preferred

· An advanced degree, such as a MS, MA, or PhD is preferred

· Significant experience (7 years) in and responsibility for strategic fundraising.

· Must have excellent communication skills, both written and orally, high level analytical skills, and demonstrated collaboration and negotiation skills. In addition, the candidate must have knowledge of laws and regulations regarding health system foundations and knowledge of fundraising databases.

The CDO is expected to enact the Foundation's fiduciary responsibility to the community, demonstrate fidelity to the hospital, and operate consistently with its ethics and mission in their performance of their job duties. These duties include the management of human resources and systems to safely produce high quality care, patient and physician satisfaction, and sustainability. CDOs generally have 24-hour responsibility for the operation of a division and its services as well as responsibility for coordinating achievements or responding to challenges across multiple divisions within the organization.

CDOs demonstrate ethical behavior, leadership capability, fiscal responsibility, excellent analytical and communication skills, and the ability to select, train and retain management employees. Appropriate leadership at this level requires recognition that long-term, sound working relationships across the organization and with our partners (medical staff and community) are necessary. Successful CDOs will have a constant awareness of how they are impacting these relationships through individual decisions and communications.

Transparent reporting and constant improvement of the performance of the CDO’s division and monitoring alignment with the revenue goals, budget, operating and strategic plans are the CDO's primary responsibilities. A CDO selects, develops and mentors a performance oriented and responsive team that will ensure that the necessary divisional resources are available and focused to support Holy Cross Health and its management in a highly competitive market. Participation in setting organizational policy and adapting that policy as necessary is expected of each CDO. Once policy is set, the CDO is accountable for ensuring the application of policies across the organization.

Working Conditions:

Physical Requirements: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally.

Visual Acuity: The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and/or operation of machines (including inspection); using measurement devices; and/or assembly or fabrication parts at distances close to the eyes.

Environmental Conditions: None. The worker is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions (such as in typical office or administrative work.) Must have access to transportation to visit the multiple worksites. Local travel and some out-of-state is expected.
