Position Summary

Odyssey Systems has an exciting new opportunity for a Program Manager supporting the Department of Diarrheal Disease Research (DDR) Support Services at Walter Reed Army Institute of Research. In support of the Surgeon General’s responsibility to conduct research and development for the production of countermeasures against Diarrheal Disease pathogens that have the goal of improving readiness, combat

effectiveness, and soldier health, the DDR was established in response to Military Infectious Disease Research Program (MIDRIP) and is in part carried out in the Bacterial Diseases Branch (BDB) at the WRAIR.

The BDB conducts the necessary studies from basic laboratory research to clinical trials in human volunteers. Within the BDB the specific mission is to develop countermeasures for Shigella and enterotoxigenic E. coli, both of which are significant causes of diarrheal disease in deployed American troops. As licensed countermeasures for shigellosis and enterotoxigenic E. coli (ETEC) are not available it is necessary to conduct basic and applied research to develop new countermeasures. Sources of potential countermeasures are either intramural programs or extramural programs.


Duties include, but not limited to:

Provide administrative support for the Department by preparing requests for travel, transferring government purchased equipment between laboratories, and assisting new hires with in-processing at the Institute Support the coordination of communication between research operations, program management, and team member Provide program administrative oversight and support to department director to include calendar managment Produce budget reports for the Department of Diarrheal Disease Research (DDR) by reconciling the Army’s accounting system against the Department’s records Organize and display various funding sources for appropriate use of the funds Assist with the establishment of government agreements, such as CRADAs, MTAs, or CTAs Create and distribute invoices to collaborators in accordance with preestablished agreements Facilitate the procurement of laboratory supplies and equipment in agreement with the Department of the Army’s regulations using the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS) and Electronic Centralized Acquisition Tool (ECAT) Coordinate with Odyssey home office on purchase of supplies and equipment using approved ordering processes Organize and attend department meetings, take notes and distribute to attendees as required


Required Qualifications:

B.S. Degree 8 or More years; AA or AS Degree with 10 or more years’ experience Experience working with mulitple stakeholders on varied projects Ability to communciate effectively to all levels of the organization Expertise in Microsoft Office product suite, Endnote reference manager

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience in a management of life sciences research projects with demonstrated experience Knowledge of budgetary procedures related to research projects, creation and maintenance of timelines, milestone and deliverable tracking.
Demonstrated understanding and experience of government agreements including MTAs, CRADAs, CTAs and Clinical Trial Agreement Knowledge of laboratory management, supplies ordering/procurement with training and use of the Defense Medical Logistics Standard Support (DMLSS), Electronic Centralized Acquisition Tool (ECAT), and Medical Master Catalog (MMC) systems.
