The ideal candidate will be responsible for:

The Psychological Health Center of Excellence (PHCoE) is the lead psychological health component for the Defense Health Agency (DHA) providing psychological health care support to the nation's Service members, veterans, and families. PHCoE collaborates with the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Veterans Affairs and other agencies to provide leadership and expertise, inform policy, and drive improvements in psychological health outcomes. PHCoE's Clinical Care (CC) branch supports the clinical community through the development of clinical support products that provide information about evidence based practice in behavioral health care across the DoD; and by coordinating working groups and events geared toward enhancing mental health care throughout the DoD.

CC requires a Social Worker SME with prior child/family and clinical experience to inform the development of clinical tools providing psycho-education to providers, patients and their families. The ideal candidate will have experience working with children and families, with military healthcare, and with aspects of behavioral treatment, issues, and techniques addressing the psychological conditions of most relevance to the military (e.g., PTSD, substance misuse, suicide, sequeale of sexual assault, etc.). This team member will assist with responding to congressional inquiries, requests for briefs on military mental health from senior leadership and providing other information regarding the state of military mental health, as well as ethical issues related to military health care.

Duties and responsibilities:

  • Provide presentations on military behavioral healthcare that can be delivered both in person and via webinar
  • Assist with development of clinical support tools, including written materials providing psychoeducation and overviews of best practices for providers, patients and their families
  • Monitor and stay on top of current research in topics relevant to military mental health; conduct literature reviews as necessary
  • Support projects that promote a culture of support for psychological health and evidence-based practices
  • Carefully document ongoing projects and provide regular updates to leadership
  • Maintain active engagement with current developments in the field of clinical psychology and related disciplines
  • Provide evidence-informed written responses, sometimes within a very short turn-around time
  • Perform administrative duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Social Work plus 10 years relevant work experience or Master's degree in Social Work plus 8 years relevant work experience in clinical or health psychology or related discipline.
  • Prior experience delivering mental health services in a clinical setting
  • 5 years overall experience in a social work, mental health, or related child/family development setting
  • Demonstrate strong understanding and knowledge of issues pertaining to clinical practice
  • Capacity to collaborate easily with peers, managers, and clients while leading program development to a completed and successful solution
  • Strong organization skills to manage multiple timelines and complete tasks quickly within the constraints of client's timelines and budgets
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Must have experience treating/researching different aspects of suicide.
  • Must have recent experience with research and writing.

Desired Qualifications

  • LSW, LCSW, LISW, LICSW
  • Demonstrated experience communicating (verbal and written) with diverse audiences to convey clinical processes, problems, and solutions
  • Experience and knowledge of U.S. military organizations and other government agencies
  • Experience publishing peer-review journal articles and other scholarly and/or government-related documents.
  • Ability and experience writing or developing concise reports, spreadsheets, documents and presentations containing evidence-informed information using common computer-based applications
