We are industry-leading experts, and we work hard to encourage a collaborative and team-oriented environment.A Day in the Life of a Planner IIYou are part of an interdisciplinary team that delivers multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environmentAs a Planner II you will contribute to projects, lead analysis, work directly with our clients, represent Toole Design in project and stakeholder meetings, and reinforce our reputation as trusted experts. You'll work with other planners, landscape architects, urban designers, and engineers to deliver a variety of exciting projects focused on making places and travel experiences better for everyone. You are at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines, integrating input from a broad range of stakeholders to create award-winning plans that lead directly to implementation.Our projects are at all different scales, from national pedestrian and bicycle planning and design guidance for the Federal Highway Administration to State DOT and City Pedestrian and Bicycle Master Plans. We work on multimodal corridor studies, Vision Zero, Safe Routes to School, trails and greenways, complete streets, and Urban Street Design Guidelines and we push ourselves and our clients to proactively think about equity every step of the way.Qualifications of a Planner II:

• A bachelor's degree in urban planning, landscape architecture, urban design, engineering, or a related field is required; master's degree preferred.
• At least 3 years of planning experience at a consulting firm, public entity, non-profit, or higher learning institution
• Experience conducting public outreach and engagement
• Experience working with multidisciplinary teams and multi-phased projects
• Strong writing skills and experience working as a support and/or lead writer for planning documents
• Experience independently managing tasks or projects
• Proficiency using Excel for data and demographic analysis as well as a working knowledge of ArcGIS and/or QGIS
• Experience with bicycle and pedestrian projects and related public outreach is a plus
• Experience in the various stages of marketing, including business development, proposal strategy and writing, and interviewing are all a plus
• Proficiency in graphic design, layout, and production using InDesign and other programs in the Adobe Creative Suite, including data visualization, online interactive mapping, and document layout are a plus
• Spanish language abilities are a plusYou'll be great here if:

We also provide employees with the flexibility and necessary equipment to work from home 2-3 days per week. The Silver Spring office of Toole Design is our corporate headquarters. We are conveniently located just outside of Washington DC in downtown Silver Spring, two blocks from the Silver Spring Metrorail/MARC Station and bus depot. Our beautiful 8th floor suite offers stunning views of DC and surrounding Montgomery County.
