Now Hiring Transit Safety and Training Supervisor

Transdev Services, Inc. is hiring a Transit Safety and Training Supervisor in its Hyattsville, MD facility. The idea candidate will primary be responsible for administering all safety and training programs in accordance with established policies and procedures. They will facilitate new hire operator and refresher training; recommend, develop, and implement safety and training programs; and maintain and update training calendar and employee safety and training files.

* Demonstrates and promotes a "Safety First" lifestyle at the location.

* Conducts on-road observations of service to insure proper implementation of all operating rules and procedures.

* Assists operators and attendants in overcoming operational challenges.

* Completes a daily Customer Counts Supervisor report recording all emergency or maintenance road-calls, time checks, performance code violations and customer contacts. Completes incident reports and accident reports as required.

* Ensures operators are fit for duty at all times.

* Observes operator pre- and post-trip operating procedures.

* The supervisor shall be responsible for working with the Maintenance Admin & Operations Supervisor with respect to handling breakdowns, and discussing operator concerns regarding the fleet.

* Reviews route change requests with operators and submits appropriate paperwork for approval.

* Visits with major customer generators to discuss service performance issues and review site conditions for safety hazards.

* Investigates customer complaints related to operator performance and safety.

* Conducts operator evaluations as directed by the Safety Manager.

* Document observed violations to company policy.

* Can make recommendations to terminate employment based on observed failure to perform the job in a safe manner and in accordance to company policy.

* May be called upon to testify on behalf of the company at union grievances or safety appeals meetings.

* Ensures all required reports are submitted in a timely manner.

* Assists in the review of SmartDrive clips and counsels drivers as required.

* Maintains an orderly work area.

* Adheres to a dress code that demonstrates professionalism and respect.

* Provide ODP training to new employees.

* Provide refresher training to current employees.

* Respond to accidents and determine preventability.

* Create accident reports utilizing WebRisk program.

* Deliver Employee Injury Control Program to new and current employees.

* Report workplace injuries to Workers' Compensation insurer.

* Create employee injury reports.

* Ensure compliance with Drug and Alcohol policy.

* Ensure MIS reports are submitted in a timely manner.

* Ensure all OSHA requirements are met.

* Ensure all FTA regulations are met, if applicable.

* Maintains professional demeanor and appearance.

* Handle multiple tasks accurately and effectively in a fast-paced environment.

* Other duties as assigned to ensure the efficient operation of the department.


* Must have a high school diploma or its equivalent.

* Must have a minimum of 2-3 years experience in the transportation industry with emphasis on safety.

* 2-3 years supervisory experience and must be able to lead, train, supervisor and motivate Transdev employees.

* Will be available to handle up to 50% local travel.

* Knowledge of state and local regulations/guidelines, inclusive of DOT, FTA and FMCSR.

* Ability to interpret and initiate policies and procedures.

* Must have a clean driving record.

* Must be able to pass a DOT physical and drug screen and submit to an employment and criminal background check. Will be required to sign a FCRA form.

* Ability to work various hours/shifts.

* Must be familiar with Smith System defensive driving program.

* Considerable knowledge of and ability to use personnel computers and related software.

* Demonstrated ability to plan, assign, and supervise the work of subordinate employees engaged in a variety of activities.

* Demonstrate ability to identify and understand problems and to determine the appropriate measures it takes to solve problems.

* Considerable interpersonal skills, including the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.

* Ability to maintain a variety of complex records and to prepare reports.

* Excellent communication skills both written and oral.

* Ability to manage customer relationships, provide strong customer service skills and work in a fast paced team environment.

* Proven organization skills, understanding importance of prioritizing effectively and managing multiple tasks in an environment with ever competing demands.

* 10% of work is accomplished in doors and in air conditioned or well ventilated facilities.

* Frequently stands and walks; ability to sit for up to three hours; walk for long distances and on possible sloped ground or slippery and uneven surfaces; normal manual dexterity and eye-hand coordination; ability to lift material weighing over 100 with assistance; ability to bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch; and corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication.
