Job Description:
The Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law is one of the
nations leading national racial justice legal organizations. Formed
in 1963 at the request of President John F. Kennedy, the Lawyers
Committee uses legal advocacy to achieve racial justice, fighting
inside and outside the courts to ensure that Black people and other
people of color have the voice, opportunity, and power to make the
promises of our democracy real. The Lawyers Committee seeks a
dedicated and highly motivated Strategic Partnerships Officer to
manage the solicitation and stewardship of a broad range of
corporate entities across the country. This position will have a
diverse set of responsibilities, focused on creating and deepening
relationships with corporations through in-person and online
meetings, mailings, and special engagement opportunities. The
Strategic Partnerships Officer will help the organizations
corporate partners fulfill their philanthropic goals and create
opportunities for corporations and their employees to engage with
the organization to help advance our mission. Additionally, this
position will create and execute high ROI engagement opportunities
for corporations and leverage staff and organizational
opportunities to build and foster sustained relationships that
bring mutual benefit beyond an initial financial transaction. The
Strategic Partnerships Officer will work under the supervision of
the Vice President of Development and will also work closely with
other Development team members, the Vice President of Strategy and
Programs, and the President and Executive Director. This is a
full-time exempt position. Strategic Partnerships Officer will work
under the supervision of the Vice President, Development. Specific
Duties and Responsibilities:Essential responsibilities of the
Strategic Partnerships Officer include but are not limited to the
following: Essential Duties Corporate Stewardship and
Solicitation
- Serve as the primary point of contact for corporate partners
and coordinate contacts, internal information-sharing, and external
information flow between corporate prospects/donors and various
Lawyers Committee departments including staff in various program
units, Communications, and the Executive Office;
- Create and execute individualized strategies from stewardship
to solicitation to cultivation for corporate donors and
prospects;
- Create and execute special engagement and cultivation
opportunities, such as small events, special mailings, or
communications for select corporate donors/prospects;
- Create and execute cultivation calendar including producing
content directed at corporate donor audiences;
- Develop outreach materials and presentations for C-suite
executives;
- Prepare personalized proposals and reports for corporate donors
and prospects;
- Develop and oversee processes to triage, select, support, and
manage strategic partnerships opportunities;
- Conduct prospect research to expand organizations strategic
partnership opportunities;
- Lead and track outreach, and serve as the primary point of
contact for corporate partners;
- Collaborate with Vice President of Strategy and Programs to
develop engagement strategies, and identify partnership and
advocacy opportunities for business corporate partners;
- Collaborate with Communications colleagues to optimize cause
marketing relationships for brand and audience building;
- Stay abreast of current Corporate Social Responsibility trends,
priorities, and cause marketing trends;
- Stay abreast and be conversant in all substantive Lawyers
Committee programmatic work and issues
- Create and manage expense and revenue forecasts for strategic
partnerships program;
- Lead engagement with external partners for charitable sales
promotions and corporate sponsorship contracts and agreements;
- Liaise with key members of Lawyers Committee staff to shepherd
contracts and agreements through internal approval processes;
- Serve as a Lawyers Committee ambassador at public and private
events, meetings, and conferences;
- Lead the outreach and solicitation of companies or corporations
for 60th Anniversary events including the Higginbotham Gala;
and
- Engage in special projects and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements and Competencies:
- Demonstrated belief in the Lawyers Committees mission and
strong understanding of the organizations work;
- Commitment to racial equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- The ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of
stakeholders, including; corporations, donors, board members,
volunteers, staff, and the general public;
- A minimum of five years of progressive experience in
cultivating strategic partnerships and managing external facing
relationships ;
- Excellent written, interpersonal, and oral communication and
presentation skills;
- Demonstrated ability to simplify complex themes and activities
into a short, compelling presentation or written piece;
- Strong organizational skills, ability to prioritize and manage
multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines. Ability to
develop long-term plans, set objectives, and track progress towards
achieving objectives;
- Ability to work independently and take the initiative and
exercise good judgment.
- Experience in nonprofit fundraising preferred, with progressive
responsibility and a proven track record of soliciting, closing,
and gifts from corporations;
- Flexibility and a willingness to take on new tasks.
